Dental Care

Home Dental Care: The team at Central Park Veterinary Clinic can teach you how to support your pet's dental health at home.  Home dental care is an important for our pets as it is for our own health. Brushing your pet's teeth daily is ideal and we can teach you how. Hint! It isn't as difficult as it sounds! Other home dental care options are also available and we can help you determine the best home dental care plan for your pet to reduce their risk of potentially painful dental disease.

Professional Dental Care: Most pets should have a professional oral health evaluation and cleaning every 1-3 years throughout their lives. No matter how effective your home dental care is, your pet will still build up some plaque and tartar. Our goal is to prevent that from developing into periodontal disease, infection, tooth loss and other painful complications. At CPVC, we will perform a CORE dental procedure, which stands for Complete Oral and Radiographic Evaluation. Your pet will receive a thorough oral examination by the veterinarian, as well as full mouth X-Rays to evaluate the health of the teeth below the gumline where we cannot see. In fact, most significant dental disease occurs below the gumline! After the oral health evaluation, our team will use modern and safe ultrasonic scaling to clean each tooth thoroughly above and below the gum line. Dental technicians polish teeth to create a smooth, lustrous tooth surface more resistant to plaque buildup. We also perform oral surgery and tooth extractions when needed.

Behavioral Medicine

Behavior problems are a top cause of people's frustration with their pets. Behavior problems can develop at any age, from puppyhood or kittenhood up through all life stages. The earlier a behavior problem is addressed, the better (and usually quicker) the resolution. We can help with behavior concerns ranging from basic housetraining and manners, recommending local trainers, and answering general questions about your pet's behavior.

Behavior changes in pets can sometimes occur in pets due to medical issues. Our veterinarians will rule out medical causes of behavior changes or concerns, such as pain, hormone abnormalities, endocrine diseases, and more.

For complicated behavioral issues such as separation anxiety, generalized anxiety, socialization or reactivity issues, we offer behavioral consultations. These consults are extended visits in which we attempt to identify the problems you are dealing with, as well as any underlying causes, and try to find a resolution that is best for you and your pet. The behavior plan will likely involve training and behavior modification techniques, and may also include nutritional supplements or medications to aid in the behavior modification process.

For some behavioral issues, referral to a board certified veterinary behavior specialist may be recommended.

Permanent Identification: Microchips

Microchips have helped reunite thousands of pets with their families. We partner with Home Again, a microchip company that provides extensive lost pet services to improve the chance of reuniting pets with their families.

If your pet has a microchip, make sure to check your contact information regularly so that your lost pet can be reunited with you quickly.

**Added bonus: HomeAgain microchips we currently use can also measure body temperature. This means for routine wellness visits, no rectal temperature required if your pet has a temp-reading chip!

All pets benefit from a high quality, balanced diet. Our trained staff is available to help you choose the right diet for your pet to keep him or her happy, healthy and active. Radiology & Ultrasound

Radiolographs, or X-rays, help our veterinarians evaluate musculoskeletal, cardiovascular(cardiopulmonary), gastrointestinal, reproductive and urinary systems. We have digital radiography which provides higher quality images as well as allows for rapid analysis by specialists in cases where this is needed. All radiographs obtained at Central Park Veterinary Clinic are reviewed by a board certified radiologist.

Ultrasound technology uses sound waves to painlessly examine specific internal organs, primarily the abdominal organs. Pregnancy exams are also available. For evaluation of the heart via ultrasound, board-certified cardiologist referrals are available.
